The Annual Kathmandu Conference on Nepal and the Himalaya 2012

The first Annual Kathmandu Conference on Nepal and the Himalaya was organised by Social Science Baha in partnership with the Association for Nepal and Himalayan Studies and the Britain-Nepal Academic Council. The inaugural edition of the conference was held at Hotel Shanker in Kathmandu from 18 to 22 July, 2012. The 2012 conference was divided into three parts. The first three days, 18-20 July, 2012, were devoted to Inequality and Affirmative Action: Situating Nepal in Global Debates. This part of the conference was by invitation only. For the fourth day, 21 July, 2012, eight parallel panels were organised, where researchers  presented papers on various social science disciplines and topics. Library Rules The Social Science Baha is a reference library. All personal belongings, e.g., bags, briefcases, books, notebooks, pens, etc, should be deposited in the Deposit Rack of the Library. All visitors and Library members are expected to sign in during entry. First-time visitors are permitted to take a look at the Library facilities, including the stacks. The Library opens daily from 9 am to 5 pm except on Saturdays and selected government holidays. Membership Annual membership fee is Rs 600 for a General Member and Rs 300 for a Student Member. Temporary membership fee for a period of one month is Rs 100. If any temporary member wants to become a permanent member before the end of the month, an annual fee of Rs 200 for students and Rs…

About Social Science Baha

About us
Introduction The Social Science Baha is an independent, non-profit organisation set up with the objective of promoting and enhancing the study of and research in the social sciences in Nepal. Established on 1 January 2002 with the primary focus of starting a social science library, the Social Science Baha was initially hosted at Himal Association, a non-profit organisation located at Patan Dhoka, Lalitpur. By the time of its formal registration as an independent entity on 15 January 2007, however, the Baha had diversified its activities and become involved in other areas as well, namely: i) conducting the four-month-long Immersion Course on Contemporary Social Issues; ii) hosting lectures, discussions, workshops, and conferences; iii) publishing books, occasional papers and journals; and iv) conducting research.
