Ram Bahadur Chhetri received his PhD in Anthropology from the University of Hawaii, USA (1990) and is currently a Professor at the Central Department of Sociology/Anthropology, Tribhuvan University, where he also served as Head of Department (2003-2007). He was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the Department of Anthropology, the University of Georgia (1997-1998) and a visiting faculty member at the Institute of Social Studies, The Netherlands (2005).
He has provided professional services in the capacity of a social scientist, consultant, and team leader and team member in various socio-economic studies, evaluations, tasks related to preparation of project documents/management plans, and other types of studies to various national and international organizations (such as ICIMOD, Australian Forestry Project, DANIDA, GTZ, CARE Nepal, WWF, FAO and ACAP).
He has several publications under his name. Among his recent publications are Knowledge Systems and Natural Resources: Management, Policy and Institutions in Nepal (Co-editor), (2008) and ‘Community-based Forest Management Programmes in Nepal: An Overview of Contexts, Politics, Practices and Issues’ (Co-author), in H.R. Ojha et al (eds), Communities, Forests and Governance: Policy and Institutional Innovations from Nepal (2008).
